Can Aloe Vera get rid of keloids?
Aloe vera is widely is used as a herbal remedy in topical skin conditions. It is indeed known for its cooling properties and is also an anti-inflammatory.
Since keloid is a result of chronic inflammation of the reticular layer of dermis which is the deepest layer of your skin, topical application of Aloe Vera for keloids is not recommended though it could be used to soothe and moisturize the scar tissue.
Hands down the best Aloe Vera gels I've used are:
Medical Treatments to be considered
Silicone gel sheets
Silicone gel sheets have been found to be effective in early cases of keloid/hypertrophy of
scar formation.A 2013 controlled trial found them effective for preventing early scars.
I personally, am prone to keloid and I've used the Smith and Nephew Cica-care Gel Sheet during my early keloid stage for around 3 months and it improved the texture and color of the raised scar and somewhat flattened it too.Other alternatives which you can try are listed down below:
Steroid Injections
Injections of steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs have been found to flatten the size of keloids by 50-100% and recurrence rate of 33%. The most common approach is intralesional corticosteroid injection alone or in combination with other treatments like surgical incision, laser therapy, cryotherapy, radiotherapy and more.
